Paula Matthews LMHC Mental Health Counselor
Paula Matthews believes therapy should be a place where you can show up as you are—without judgment, pressure, or the expectation that you have everything figured out.
Paula works with clients in both English and Spanish who may be navigating PTSD, depression, lifelong trauma connected to their upbringing, relationship challenges, or simply feeling stuck when it comes to making important life decisions. She understands that our past experiences can shape how we see ourselves, how we connect with others, and how we respond to stress today.
During your first sessions with Paula, you’ll spend time understanding what is causing distress and identifying where you would most like to see change. The goal isn’t to fix everything at once. Instead, Paula helps clients begin restoring balance and moving forward one manageable step at a time.
With nearly a decade of experience in mental health, education, trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and advocacy, Paula brings both clinical knowledge and compassion into the therapy room. Her experience has included supporting individuals experiencing trauma, PTSD, depression, relationship difficulties, domestic violence, and significant life stressors.
Paula is trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Therapy. She draws from these approaches to help clients better understand their emotional experiences, develop practical coping skills, and create meaningful changes that extend beyond the therapy session.
Therapy with Paula may include exploring boundaries, healthier relationships, creating sustainable habits, self-love, living more authentically, and learning to trust yourself and your decisions. Most importantly, Paula strives to create an informed, supportive, culturally responsive, and non-judgmental space where clients can heal from what they have been through while building a life that feels more balanced, connected, and genuinely their own.
